GOODBYE JULIET (AKA. LOVE LOVE LOOOOOOOOVE.)
(WITH ZOYA SARGSYAN)
this is an emotional ritual
perhaps not for a specific someone, or someplace, or something
but rather the ritual of goodbyes
the ritual of "you will always have a place in my heart"
the ritual of "someplace, somewhere, there is a mark on my soul that is forever yours"

goodbye juliet (aka. LOVE LOVE LOOOOOOOOVE.) is an open-scored work for voice, flexible ensemble, and electronics, devised in collaboration with musicians at hosq's Notations Festival #2 over two weeks in July-August 2026, with the curation and guidance of Aram Hovhannisyan.
The material of goodbye juliet was devised over a period of "jam sessions" throughout Notations Creative Laboratory, with text in Armenian by vocalist Zoya Sargsyan, chords by pianist Mileta Gazanchyan, and vocaloid electronics.
goodbye juliet is kind of about nothing, and lots of things, all at once. It reflects love, goodbyes, hopeless romanticism, rituals of letting go, rituals of letting love in, rituals of yearning for spaces to exist, to celebrate, together.
If anything, goodbye juliet is the culmination and amalgamation of all of the intense emotions I experienced over the course of hosq's Notations Creative Laboratory in Armenia over the course of two weeks.
It's been an immense privilege working with all of the incredible artists at hosq, Thank you so much for everything.
Tickets for this year's Notations Festival, taking place 1-2 August in Yerevan, Armenia, are available here.

'goodbye juliet (aka. LOVE LOVE LOOOOOOOOVE.)' was written as part of hosq's Notations Lab 2026 in Armenia, and premieres as part of Notations Festival #2 in Yerevan, Armenia, alongside compositions by Mileta Gazanchyan, Anton Shanikhin, Matteo Cenerini, Varder Baghdasaryan, Aram Hovhannisyan, and work by over 120 musicians, visual artists, and creatives.
