EVOLUTION SUITE
Evolution Suite is a jazz quintet in nine movements, based on Eevee and its evolutions. Composed between September and December of 2019, each movement serves to portray the elemental characteristic of its respective evolution, such as: the lightning-fast stabs and jungle-influenced inflections of 'Jolteon', the steadily building eruption of 'Flareon', the relaxed, frozen groove of 'Glaceon'...
The Zygmund de Somogyi Quintet was a short-lived jazz quintet made up of students from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire's Composition and Jazz Departments, as well as the University of Birmingham. The group were briefly active in early 2020, premiering two movements of Evolution Suite at new music montage night #birminghamnewmusic before disbanding following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Movements 'II: Jolteon' and 'IV: Flareon' of Evolution Suite were premiered by The Zygmund de Somogyi Quintet as part of #birminghamnewmusic at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, January 2020.
The suite was scheduled to be performed in its entirety at CODA Festival 2020, but was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Currently, only 'Jolteon' and 'Flareon' exist in a notated format.
