A LONE LANTERN FLICKERS IN DEEP SPACE

BEGIN SCENE
a LONE LANTERN flickers in deep space.
over the course of 10,000,000,000,000 years, THE STARS die out one by one, until the lantern is left alone in darkness.
more time passes until a LONE STAR returns to speak with the LONE LANTERN.
LONE STAR: You’re still here. Everyone has gone.
LONE LANTERN: I like it this way.
LONE STAR: But why? There’s nothing here for your light to illuminate.
the LONE LANTERN pauses for a moment.
LONE LANTERN: I don’t shine my light to impress the stars. I shine my light because the light gives me joy.
the LONE STAR looks satisfied with this answer and starts to vanish into the cosmos.
LONE LANTERN: Wait!
the LONE STAR turns to look at the LONE LANTERN.
Did I ever tell you you’re beautiful?
