ZYGMUND DE SOMOGYI
composer
interdisciplinary artist

"For me, music has been a way to express myself in ways I couldn’t with words;
a way to feel seen and understood in a world I couldn’t understand."
Zygmund de Somogyi is a British-Filipino composer, interdisciplinary artist, and music journalist based in London, UK.
Drawing from their punk rock background and DIY ethics, they employ a uniquely multifaceted approach to composition across contemporary classical, opera, theatre, film, and electronic music. Their recent works have explored themes of online folklore, collaborative worldbuilding, queer identity, metamodern aesthetics, and contradictory recontextualisations of genre and form.
• Zygmund has been appointed as resident composer with Festival ADAR in Asturias, Spain, and is an artist at hosq Notations Festival 2026 in Yerevan, Armenia, in association with the State Philharmonia of Armenia and National Gallery.
• Other projects for 2026 include commissions for àktapha and the Jasmine Quartet, a song cycle for soprano Hannah Dienes-Williams, and a cello sonata for Miki Piszczorowicz.
• Zygmund was a Royal Philharmonic Society composer of 2025; their commissioned pieces were performed by Temporal Harmonies, Inc. at Wigmore Hall on 19 April 2025, and toured to Harpa, Reykjavik (Iceland) in August.
